CSSC
Cross-sector Safety and Security Communications (CSSC) is the messaging system that provides fast-time, accurate, authoritative information. It has been recognised as an outstanding success before, during and following London 2012. A conservative estimate is that each message reached 7.5 million people.
Later this year, CSSC will be introduced into cities across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. CSSC Scotland is currently being established and will be in place for the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014.
In line with its development, the structure that supports CSSC is currently being reviewed and refreshed, as well as the board actively pursuing charitable status.
Vision into action
Sir David Wootton, recent Lord Mayor of London, has agreed to chair the Board of Trustees. Sir David Veness CBE QPM, together with Commander Richard Morris from the Metropolitan Police, co-chairs the Executive Board.
In addition, there will be a Senior Management Board, chaired by Don Randall MBE, with representation from the City of London, Metropolitan and British Transport Police plus private sector representation. This board will take the Executive Board’s vision into action.
The new Project Director will be Graham Tucker, from the Bank of England, with Debbie Lawmon, from G4S Secure Solutions, Steve Emmins, Universal Security, and Steve Lemon from the Metropolitan Police on the project team. There is now a 24/7 link with the police service.
Distributing messages
The Industry Sectors and the Industry Sector Leads are being reviewed to ensure the messages are distributed in the most effective ways. Additionally, the levels of the messages are being categorised as follows:
- Red – indicates an incident, which will normally mean a bridge call
- Amber – some action is required, but it is not urgent
- Green – low priority – advance warning
