City of London Crime Prevention Association
The City of London Crime Prevention Association (CoLCPA) has been in existence for more than forty years and facilitates a network of like-minded security professionals. It is a partnership between the City of London Police, the wider security community and all those involved with safety, security and emergency response.
This unique association offers monthly meetings with a varied and interesting programme. Each meeting includes the latest terrorism and crime updates, as well as information on other threats and risks and the appropriate measures to mitigate these. The CoLCPA is a registered charity and provides financial support to a number of crime prevention projects.

This year the University of St Andrews was ranked number 1 in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide. The first time in the Guide’s history that a university other than Oxford or Cambridge has taken top position. The Guide cited the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) as one of the highlights of the University. Founded in 1994, Handa CSTPV is Europe’s oldest research centre dedicated to the study of terrorism. Over the past 27 years CSTPV has been producing leading research and providing teaching across the field, specialising in in-person and distance-learning education. Now CSTPV is celebrating the 15th Anniversary the Certificate in Terrorism Studies.
Certificate in Terrorism Studies from St Andrews University
A joint venture with Informa Connect, the Certificate is an online course which students can customise by choosing from 16 modules and study at their own pace. Ideal for professional development and those interested in kickstarting a career change, it can also be used for entry into the University of St Andrews MLitt in Terrorism and Political Violence for students without a prior degree or experience. Much like the University, CSTPV is not resting on its laurels and is constantly updating and improving the Certificate in Terrorism Studies. Recently the academics at CSTPV wrote and launched a new module on Women in Terrorism and Counterterrorism, exploring an often-overlooked area of security. Next year the course will launch Northern Ireland: The Troubles, a module covering terrorism that is very close to home and draws upon a wealth of experience and research from CSTPV academics and research. The module explores the last 30 years of violence from terrorist groups and state actors. With a new intake starting in February 2022, now is the perfect time to enrol. Apply here!
Selecting the twelve nominees
The twelve nominees for the City Security magazine Article of the Year Award 2021 were selected from articles published in the last twelve months’ editions (Autumn & Winter 2020 and Spring & Summer 2021 and then subsequently published online on the citysecuritymagazine.com website.
For each edition, the top three articles were selected, based on the number of views for each article, since publication online. By selecting three articles per edition, it means the articles from earlier editions do not have an unfair advantage of being online longer.
Selecting the three finalists
The competition launched on 1st December 2021 with advertising, a voting page on the website and social media.
Only subscribers to City Security magazine were eligible to vote – one vote per subscriber.
The finalists were the three articles that received the most votes.
